Look at that furry animal swimming in the water! That's a beaver. He is a very busy builder. Right now, he has a twig in his mouth. It looks like a little brown stick.
What is he doing with that twig? He is using it to build his house, called a lodge. His lodge is made of mud, rocks, and lots and lots of sticks.
He builds it in the middle of the pond. The entrance is underwater, so he can swim inside to stay safe and warm.

He has a big, flat tail that helps him swim. It goes slap, slap on the water when he wants to tell his family, "Danger!"
He also has two big, strong front teeth. He uses them to cut down trees and chew on branches, just like the one in his mouth.
He is a hardworking animal, building a cozy home for his family! If you like this beaver in the water, follow the step-by-step instructions to learn how to draw him!
