This seashell is a special kind called a conch shell. It is shaped like a spiral, like a long, pointy ice-cream cone that twists around and around. It looks like a tiny, sandy tornado!

It is not all one colour. It has lovely bands of colour – like soft pink, warm peach, creamy white, and sunny yellow, all mixed together. The outside is a little rough and bumpy, but the inside is smooth and shiny, like polished marble.

Right now, this shell is empty! But before it washed up on the beach, it was the home of a sea snail. The snail lived inside the shell and carried it on its back like a little house. When the snail grew too big, it left the shell behind, and the waves carried it to the shore.

If you pick up this shell and hold it very close to your ear, you will hear a sound like the ocean! Whoosh… whoosh… It is not really the ocean, of course. It is the sound of the air moving inside the shell. But it sounds just like the waves, and it makes you feel like you are right next to the sea!
