Look up, up, up—see that tall white pencil in the sky? That’s a rocket, and it’s just waking up. It looks like a tall, shiny crayon. The pointy end is called the “nose.” That’s where the astronauts or the little space car (we call it a satellite) sit.
Everyone shouts: “10, 9, 8, 7…” This is the rocket’s bedtime story. When the count reaches “0,” the rocket knows it’s time to wake up.
At the bottom are three or four giant “fire shoes” (engines). They start to roar like the loudest lion you ever heard: ROOOAR! Orange and yellow flames pour out and make the ground shake—boom, boom, boom.
The fire pushes the ground so hard that the ground pushes the rocket up. Slowly, slowly the rocket rises. First it is as slow as a sleepy snail, then it goes faster than the fastest race car.
The rocket goes past the tall trees, past the fluffy clouds, past the airplanes. The sky changes from bright blue to dark purple, and then to night-time black dotted with stars.
The rocket’s job is to carry things—like a space car, a robot, or even food for astronauts. In today's drawing tutorial, we are going to learn how to draw a rocket. It is taking off from the ground and is about to enter the vastness of the universe!
