A puffin is a small, cute seabird that looks a bit like a toy penguin with a very colorful beak. People sometimes call it the “clown of the sea” because its bright orange-red beak seems to be smiling.
Puffins spend most of their life in the cold ocean water. When it is time to have babies, they come to rocky cliffs near the sea and dig little burrows in the ground, almost like tiny caves.
It can fly! Puffins flap their wings up to 400 times a minute, so they move very fast. It can swim! Puffins use their wings like paddles and dive deep to catch small fish.
It can carry many fish at once. A puffin can hold 10 or more little fish in its big beak—like holding a stack of french fries!
Every winter the colorful beak turns dull and gray, but when spring comes it becomes bright again—just in time for the puffin to say, “Hello, I’m ready for a new family!”
It loves to eat small fish such as sand eels and herring. It dives underwater to grab them. In today's drawing tutorial, we will learn how to draw a puffin. It looks a bit sad, could it be that it has gotten separated from its family and friends?
