How to Draw a Tropical Fish Step by Step

Step 1 Draw the eyes of this tropical fish.

We will draw the eyes of this tropical fish in order from left to right. It has two very large eyes, which is the key point to capture.

Start by drawing an oval which is angled to the left. Then inside of it, near the left edge, draw a small oval. This completes the left eye of this tropical fish.

Before we draw the right eye, let's draw a line starting from this already drawn eye towards the bottom right. Then draw the other eye of this tropical fish in a similar way.

Step 2 Draw the mouth of this tropical fish.

Let's start by drawing a line from left to right forming a valley just below the eyes. Then draw a line from this line to the right to form a bifurcation.

To the right of the bifurcation we have just drawn, let's write the number "3", thus drawing the thick lips of this tropical fish.

At the left end of the first line drawn in this step, we add a short line to get a corner of the mouth of this tropical fish.

Step 3 Draw the back of this tropical fish.

In this step, you can follow from left to right or right to left, but I suggest you draw the top of this tropical fish's head first.

Take a point above the eye on the left, very close to the top of this eye, and draw a line from this point towards the top of the one on the right.

Extend the left end of this line toward the left and then toward the lower left to get the back of this tropical fish.

Step 4 Draw the belly of this tropical fish.

Let's look to the bottom of the line that serves as the back, and to the right of it, we draw one of the fins of this tropical fish. This fin is close to an oval, like a flower petal.

Draw a line from this fin towards the top right to connect the mouth of this tropical fish to get its abdomen.

At the bottom of this abdomen, we draw one of the fins of this tropical fish. Next all that remains is its tail and dorsal fin!

Step 5 Draw the dorsal fin and tail of this tropical fish.

Let's start by trying to draw the tail of this tropical fish. Draw it on the left side of the body. It is slightly larger than the fin next to it and is shaped a bit like a scallop.

Determine a point above the back of this tropical fish, and from this point draw a line to the bottom left and a line to the bottom right to reach the back, thus obtaining a fin.

Well, this cartoon tropical fish is almost finished, we just need to add some details and color it next!

Step 6 Add lines to the fins and tail.

Add lines to the dorsal fin of this tropical fish. They all go from top left to bottom right and you need to be careful with their spacing.

Then look at the ventral fin of this tropical fish. We're going to add lines to it as well, except they all go from bottom left to top right.

Similarly, we're adding lines to that last fin and the tail. They are radial in shape. By adding these lines it gives this fish a more textured look!

Step 7 Add lines to the body and draw eyebrows.

To the left of the eyes and mouth of this tropical fish, we are going to add three lines thus getting its gills.

All three curves are smooth, get longer in order from left to right, and the spacing between each two neighboring lines is close.

Finally above each eye we add a thick curve to get the eyebrows of this tropical fish. Well, this lovely tropical fish is finished.

Step 8 Add bubbles to the side of this tropical fish.

If we just draw a fish, it seems that the drawing is not vivid and interesting enough, so let's try to add a simple background to it.

Above the mouth and head of this tropical fish, we draw some circles of different sizes. In addition, we will draw a small circle inside most of the circles.

You can also try drawing the bottom of the sea below this fish, along with shells and aquatic plants, or some fish in the distance.

Step 9 Finally color it to complete your work.

Well, the last thing is to color this adorable tropical fish, which is probably the most anticipated part of the session!

We chose a blue color for the body of this tropical fish and made a shading effect on the body. Then the fins are blue, yellow and purple and the tail is yellow.

And of course, don't forget to paint those bubbles light blue and paint the parts except this fish and the bubbles the color of the sea.
