Let me introduce you to a very clever little tool. It is called a compass. A compass helps people find their way when they are lost. It always points to the right direction – even in a forest, on a mountain, or at sea!

What does this compass look like? This compass is round – like a small clock or a pocket watch. At the very top, there is a little ring. You can hang it on your backpack, your belt, or your finger, so you don't lose it!

On the round face, you can see four big letters: N = North, S = South, E = East, W = West. These are the four main directions. They help you know which way to go.

Inside the compass, there is a thin, magnetic needle – like a tiny arrow. The needle is special because one end is painted red (or another bright colour).

Right now, the needle is pointing to the North and the South. That means the red end is pointing to North, and the other end is pointing to South.
