Jack-o’-Lantern is a big, round pumpkin with a face cut into it. We put a little candle inside so the face glows like a smile in the dark!
A long time ago, people believed the glowing pumpkin could keep away spooky things on Halloween night. Today we make it just for fun.
How do we make it? First we pick a fat pumpkin. We cut off the top like a little hat. We scoop out the seeds—yummy for later. We draw eyes, a nose, and a big toothy mouth. We cut along the lines, pop in a candle, and—ta-da!—the pumpkin laughs with light.
We set it on the porch so we in costumes can see it and say, “Cool pumpkin!” Sometimes we call it “Jack” and pretend it is guarding the house.
Pumpkins are orange, so they look extra cool with a flickering light! Ask a grown-up to help you make your own pumpkin lantern for Halloween!
In today's drawing tutorial, we are going to learn how to draw a Halloween pumpkin. It is recommended that you paint the background black, which will make it seem to really glow in the dark!
