Rainbows are formed by a combination of refraction and reflection of light waves. It is not a coincidence that rainbows appear after rain; water and light are two essential elements without which no rainbow can be formed.

After a rain, there are many small water droplets suspended in the atmosphere. Water droplets are a medium with a different refractive index than the surrounding air, and when light enters and leaves each droplet, the path of light is deviated.

When these bent light waves reach the other side of the droplet, they reflect back into the droplet instead of traveling completely through the water. Since the white light is separated in the water, the refracted light appears to the human eye to be made up of different colors.

We see a rainbow as an arch from the ground, but it is actually a circle. If you look at a rainbow from an airplane, you can see the entire circle.

How to Draw a Rainbow Step by Step

Step 1 Draw two curves to get the outline of this rainbow.

Step 2 Add more curves between those two lines.

Step 3 Draw a cloud at the left end of this rainbow.

Step 4 Same at the right end of this rainbow.

Step 5 Draw some flower shapes below the cloud on the left.

Step 6 Same under that cloud on the right.

Step 7 Add two more flower shapes next to that cloud on the left.

Step 8 Draw flower shapes next to that cloud on the right as well.

Step 9 Choose bright colors to color this rainbow.
