Basil is a detective. That means he solves mysteries and finds clues. He is very, very smart. He can look at a tiny piece of dust and tell you exactly where it came from. He is a little like Sherlock Holmes — but a mouse!

Look at his clothes! He is wearing a white T-shirt under a big, loose coat. The coat is wide and roomy, so he can move quickly when he chases bad guys.

Around his neck, he has a neat tie. And on his head, he wears a smart hat. He looks very fancy and professional — like a detective should!

Something is wrong. Look at his face. He looks scared and nervous! His eyes are wide open. His mouth is tight. Something has frightened him.

He is not looking at you. He is looking to the side — over there, at something we cannot see. Maybe something jumped out at him. Maybe he heard a terrible noise. Maybe a villain is standing right next to him!
